CFP: From Sanctuary to Sabotage: Fighting the Fascist Creep at and beyond Universities

CALL FOR PROVOCATIONS (April 30, 2017)

The 2016 US election has been framed as both a decisive break from “politics as usual” and as a continuation and intensification of longstanding racialized, gendered, and sexualized global class warfare. In this allegedly post-truth era, the university seems to have emerged as a key site of struggle, from the sanctuary campus movements to direct action against racist authoritarian demagogues.  What does the new regime in Washington and the rise of the far-right around the world mean for how we organize within, against, and beyond universities?  How do we build collective power for radical change? How can university resources (broadly conceived) be (re)appropriated and used for anti-fascist, anti-capitalist and anti-colonial movements both within and beyond the campus?

Undercommoning is a network of radical organizers working within, against and beyond the neoliberal, neocolonial university. We host gatherings, organize online strategic discussions, and maintain web and social media platforms to aid and abet revolutionary thought and action.

We are seeking  submissions of short essays and creative responses (preferably under 2,000 words) that address these and related questions to be published as “provocations” on our website (undercommoning.org) over the coming weeks and months. We accept submissions by parties who wish to remain anonymous. We have a strong preference for submissions that are grounded in and make direct reference to material struggles.

Please email your submissions or questions to <undercommoning [at] riseup [dot] net> by April 30. Early submissions may be published before the deadline. Please include a short bio (real or imagined) and any links (web, social media) you’d like us to include if we publish your piece.

Undercommoning continues to investigate and broadcast alternatives to the neoliberal, neocolonial university as well as toys, tools and tactics for struggle within, against and beyond. If you have suggestions, please contact us.
